are our dogs.
We didn't set out to build a business. We set out to find better stuff for our dogs. Turns out, so did a lot of other people.
It started the way most things do — with a completely unremarkable problem.
Buddy — Emma's golden retriever — destroyed his third toy in two weeks. Not a cheap one, either. The kind with a five-star rating and a brand name that made it sound like it was engineered by NASA. It lasted six days.
We laughed about it. Then we went looking for something better. And kept looking. And kept not finding it.
Everything was either made to look good in a photo or made to be cheap. Nothing was just... made well.
So Sophie said, half-joking over coffee: "Why don't we just do it ourselves?"
We're not sure why we took it seriously. We weren't entrepreneurs. Sophie worked in design. Emma was in marketing. Neither of us had ever run a shop.
But we knew what we wanted — products we'd actually stand behind. For every kind of pet, not just dogs. Simple as that. Koossa was born in a flat in London, with two dogs asleep on the sofa and a very long to-do list.
We only put things on the site that we'd
actually buy for our own pets.

Three things we'll never budge on.
Every product gets tested. By us. With our own pets. If it falls apart, bores them, or feels flimsy — it's out. No exceptions, regardless of the margin.
Dogs got us started. But we stock for cats, birds, fish — whoever lives under your roof. A well-loved budgie deserves the same attention as a pampered labrador.
No scripts, no copy-paste replies. If something goes wrong with your order, you'll hear from one of us directly. That's not a policy — it's just how we'd want to be treated.
The dog that made us
think differently.
Last year we visited a shelter in our area — not for content, not for a campaign. Just because a friend volunteered there and invited us along.
There was a three-year-old black lab in the corner who hadn't been walked in two days. Not because anyone was cruel — the staff were stretched thin, doing everything they could with what they had. He just sat there, tail going, waiting.
We drove home pretty quietly. And then we decided that a small part of everything Koossa sells would go back to places like that. Not as a gesture. Because it felt wrong not to.
